Why should I hire a tutor?

There are many benefits to hiring a tutor for your child, especially if they are struggling with the curriculum in mainstream schooling. Let's take a look at a few:
1. Tutors have time.
Unfortunately with class sizes growing (particularly in state schools) teachers are forced to manage their time among 25- 30 students at once. If we say the school day is 5 hours, that's 300 minutes. 300 minutes divided by 25 students is equal to 12. That means that *potentially* your child is receiving just 12 minutes of 1:1 instruction per day- and we know with a jam-packed curriculum, transition times, and school events that's not a guaranteed figure.
Our tutors have carved out that 1-2 hour time frame specifically to work 1:1 with your child. Even if working in a group setting, the attention provided to your child is exponentially more than in a classroom setting.
2. Tutors tailor the learning experience
Again to reflect on the busy pace of a mainstream classroom, there is a huge curriculum to teach and a pacing calendar to get it done by. With tutoring we are able to work at your child's pace, ensuring they master each concept before moving on to the next one. We also tailor the learning experience to your child's needs and interests. Do they love dinosaurs? Dinosaur math activities coming right up! Does your teenager prefer to work with music? Of course we can accommodate for that.
3. Our Tutors are qualified
The Sunday Morning Herald (2018) states that almost 1 in 10 children will never be taught by a qualified Maths tutor due to teachers working out of field. Here at Blums Tutoring we have a wealth of knowledge in our respective areas. We have completed degrees and currently work in the field that we teach. We will always match you with a tutor that has real-life experience in teaching the concepts your child needs to progress in.
4. Tutors help students retain skills
School holidays are a pretty long time- would you allow your child to have 5 weeks off school in the middle of the school year? We know how important it is for our struggling students to continue practising their skills in order to keep them for life. We also recognise it's important for kids to have a break, so our school holiday sessions are a little more fun than the average homework revision!
